Croeso i Flwyddyn 5

I am Matthew Wallace and I would like to welcome you to the Year 5 Learning Hub. I am currently beginning my third year in teaching having completed my teacher’s training in Bangor University in July 2015. Previously, I was a TA in Bryngwyn School in Llanelli as well as completing PGCE placements in Ysgol Craig y Don and Ysgol Dolafon.  As a teacher I feel that it is important to develop a strong partnership with my pupils and their parents or carers so that pupils can both enjoy their learning and achieve their full potential.

Fy Enw i yw Matthew Wallace ac fe hoffwn i’ch croesawch chi i ddosbarth 5! Rydw i yn fy trydedd flwyddyn o ddysgu ar ôl graddio o Brifysgol Bangor ym 2015. Cyn hyn, roeddwn i’n gweithio fel cynorthwyydd dosbarth yn Ysgol Bryngwyn yn Llanelli yn ogystal â gweithio yn Ysgol Craig Y Don ac Ysgol Dolafon dros fy nghwrs TAR. Fel athro, dwi’n teimlo’n gryf bod rhaid i ni hybu perthynas cryf rhwng y plant, yr athro ac yr oedolion adref i gael ein plant i gyflawni ei botensial.

In addition to being the teacher in the Year 5 Hub, I am also responsible for developing digital learning across the school.  It is an exciting time for digital learning as the new Digital Competency Framework was introduced into all schools in Wales in September 2017 and during the year staff and pupils in Llandeilo School will be working to develop the skills within the framework.

During the 2017-18 school year I will be working collaboratively with Mrs. Urszula Haines, a fantastic teaching assistant with a wealth of experience, to deliver a wide range of learning activities which I hope will motivate and engage pupils and stimulate their love of learning. In doing so we will reflect the schools vision of learning by encouraging them to become decision makers and problem solvers. The school and my class has an open- door policy, so if there are any questions or concerns parents and carers are always welcome to come and discuss them with me.

In Year 5 Hub pupils are expected to

  • Show respect and courtesy to fellow pupils and adults
  • Demonstrate good listening skills
  • Behave well and in an appropriate manner for an Upper KS2 class.
  • Give of their best in every activity – “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” Wayne Gretzky

  • Differentiated Spelling homework is given on a Tuesday and tested on a Friday.
  • Maths homework and/or literacy homework is given on Friday to be returned by Tuesday the following week.
  • Your child will also receive a project homework menu where they can select tasks to complete, as many or as few as they like, and earn points.
