Welcome to Learning Hub 5 ~ Croeso

My name is Mr Matthew Wallace and I would like to welcome you to the Year 5 Learning Hub. This is my fourth year in teaching having completed my teacher’s training in Bangor University in July 2015. Previously, I was a Teaching Assistant in Bryngwyn School in Llanelli as well as completing PGCE placements in Ysgol Craig y Don and Ysgol Dolafon.  As a teacher I feel that it is important to develop a strong partnership with my pupils and their parents or carers so that all pupils can both enjoy their learning and achieve their full potential.

Fy enw i yw Mr Matthew Wallace ac fe hoffwn eich croesawu chi i Hwb Addysgu 5. Erbyn hyn yr wyf yn fy mhedwerydd flwyddyn o addysgu ar ôl graddio o Brifysgol Bangor yn 2015. Cyn hyn, roeddwn yn gweithio fel cynorthwyydd dosbarth yn Ysgol Bryngwyn yn Llanelli yn ogystal â gweithio yn Ysgol Craig Y Don Llandudno ac Ysgol Dolafon Llanwrtyd fel rhan o’m cwrs TAR. Fel athro, dwi’n teimlo’n gryf bod angen hybu perthynas agos rhwng y plentyn, yr athro a rhieni a gofalwyr i geisio sicrhau bod ein disgyblion yn mwynhau eu dysgu ac yn cyflawni eu llawn potensial.

During the 2018-19 school year I will be working in partnership with Mrs.Urszula Haines and Miss Janet George, two very experienced teaching assistants to deliver a wide range of learning activities that I hope will motivate and engage pupils as well as stimulating their love of learning. In doing so, we will reflect the schools’ vision of learning by encouraging them to become independent decision makers and problem solvers and become citizens of the Wales and the wider world. The school and my learning hub has an open-door policy. Therefore, if there are any questions or concerns, parents and carers are always welcome to come and discuss them with me.

In addition to being the teacher in the Year 5 Hub, I am also responsible for developing digital learning across the school.  It is an exciting time for digital learning as the new Digital Competency Framework was introduced into all schools in Wales in September 2017 and during the year staff and pupils in Llandeilo School will be working to develop the skills within the framework.

In Year 5 Hub pupils are expected to:

  • Show respect and courtesy to fellow pupils and adults
  • Demonstrate good listening skills
  • Behave well and in an appropriate manner for an Upper KS2 class.
  • Give of their best in every activity – “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” Wayne Gretzky
  • Complete all tasks to the best of your ability – ‘Gwaith Campus’
  • Use simple Welsh patterns as part of class and school life.
  • Arrive promptly
  • Attend school regularly

Following these rules and meeting expectations will result in the earning of class ‘Dojo’ points.

  • Differentiated Spelling homework will be given on a Tuesday and tested on a Monday.
  • Your child will also receive a project homework menu where they can select tasks to complete, as many or as few as they like, and earn points.
  • Children will receive home reading books from school however, reading literature of choice from home is strongly recommended as well. For any recommendations, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
