Croeso / Welcome i Blwyddyn 2 / Year 2
Hello and a big warm welcome to Year 2. My name is Mr M Jones and I am the Year 2 Class Teacher. I have been a teacher here at Llandeilo Primary for the past 8 years and in those years I have taught in Years 4, 6 and 1.
I am the school’s coordinator for Music and Art, a role which was given to me based on my love for music and the arts which is probably why I am known as the singing and dancing teacher and guaranteed there will be singing and music playing within my class. I enjoy encouraging children to take part in numerous concerts and shows that take place within the school and our local community. We regularly take part singing and playing in the samba band as part of the town’s Festival of Senses’ each year as well as the town’s ‘Jazz Festival’.
I am very fortunate to have 2 fantastic teaching assistants who equally share my love for music and the arts. Let me introduce you to my team…… On Monday’s and Friday’s I am joined by Miss E Davies who is a keen farmer and has a passion for horses and regularly enters competitions. She also in her spare time enjoys singing at weddings and other special occasions. Miss Davies is very creative and enjoys working on art projects with the children.
Tuesday to Thursday I am joined by Mrs B Ratti who is also very creative and enjoys helping create wonderful and extravagant role playing areas. In the past, Mrs Ratti has built the class a cardboard castle and a pirate ship for the children to explore and enjoy. Did you know that Mrs Ratti has a love for colourful and whacky leggings and she constantly keeps us guessing daily as to what she is going to wear each day.
If there is an opportunity to dress up then Year 2 is always the first to get involved. Whether it’s World Book Day or a Roald Dahl Day or even an Easter Bonnet Parade we go full out. Along with music, dressing up engages the children to no end. The children enjoy writing and retelling about their experiences and we hope you do to.
There is no typical week here in Year 2 as every day is full of wonder and surprises. As a school we teach a thematic approach to learning. Through a variety of themes, pupils are given opportunities to explore, develop and learn new skills through hands on experiences. The Year 2 themes are ‘Big Wide World’, ‘Remember, Remember’, ‘Growing Things’ and ‘Carnival’. We regularly go on trips and visit places that are linked to our themes.
We are a platinum ECO school and encourage all pupils to be ECO friendly and to live a healthy lifestyle. We regularly have outdoor learning activities that includes going on welly walks and conduct investigations and research as part of Forest School up in our allotment. To encourage health and wellbeing P.E. is taught weekly along with a daily mile walk around the school grounds. We also hold a running club every Friday lunchtime.
So when do all these fun and exciting things take place in Year 2 I hear you cry? Well I have attached links to copies of the class timetable, the current homework menu along with the current Year 2 Class Newsletter which you can view online and/or print off.
